Abstract/Contents: | "Carnoustie, which some observers believed would never host an Open Championship again, has been chosen as the site for the 1999 tournament. The restoration of Carnoustie to peak condition has its origins in a programme devised by [superintendent John] Philp and golf course architect Donald Steel in 1987. Since then progress has been steady, with five new greens being built and eight new bunkers being revamped." |
