| Abstract/Contents: | "Variables affecting the efficacy of postemergence herbicide applications were evaluated in the greenhouse. These variables included carrier volume and diluent type. Special application equipment has been designed to make ultra-low volume (ULV) herbicide applications of 9.4 l/ha with water, petroleum oil, vegetable oil, or methylated seed oil. ULV applications of herbicides were made using an air-assisted sprayer calibrated at a volume of 9.4 l/ha and compared to 94 l/ha applications made with a conventional hydraulic system. In studies involving reduced rates of glyphosate, bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) foliage was removed at the soil surface 16, 24, 32, and 40 h after application to index herbicide absorption and translocation. Percent regrowth, height, and fresh weights were recorded and compared to untreated clipped controls. An increase in glyphosate activity at the 280 g/ha rate was observed with ULV applications over that of higher volume applications. Methylated seed oil was not as effective as other diluents at enhancing glyphosate activity." |
