| Abstract/Contents: | Sixty extensive rooftop green covers modelled after, but not trying to exactly duplicate surrounding natural plant communities were established in order to acertain which species are most well suited to the conditions of rooftop establishment, and to see which endangered species might thrive and therefore be preserved in the relatively isolated, low-maintenance, little used setting of a rooftop. As not all of the 114 species depicted could be tested at concurrently, some fingings are based on prior published research. All of the species are rated as to their tested suitability (Erprobungsgrad) on a scale of 1-3, 1 being proven to be well adapted over many years, 3 showing only marginal adaptability. Many of the species endangered in their natural environments prove to be very well suited to the environment of a rooftop community, opening up vast possibilities for nature conservation within a settled area. Three diagrams of rooftop plant communities are gived to serve as a model that could be copied on a 3.5x5.5 m surface. |
