Abstract/Contents: | A compliment to natural turf, artificial turf is the attempt to create a surface that possesses all of the positive qualities of a natural surface (lasting playability, high wear resistance, low costs of maintenance). This can be especially advantageous in areas that it proves difficult to maintain a healthy natural turf playing field. As the performance of the artificial surface depends largely on the construction and laying out of the playing field, these processes are described in detail, along with an evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of artificial turf surfaces in general. |
