Geographic Terms:Yugoslavia
Abstract/Contents:Fresh seed of 9 grass species was exposed to -5, 0, 5 or 10 deg C for 1, 3 or 5 days at the start of germination. Highest germination energy and total germination of Festuca pratensis and Festuca arundinacea was obtained by chilling for 3 to 5 days. Festuca pratensis gave satisfactory results after incubation at higher temperatures for at least 3 days. Festuca arundinacea had high germination energy after incubation at -5 deg C. Festuca rubra had the highest energy and total germination after 3 to 5 days incubation at 0 to 10 deg C. Optimum germination conditions for the following species were as follows: Phleum pratensis and Dactylis glomerata 0 to 10 deg for 3 to 5 days; Bromus inermis 5 to 10 deg C for 3 to 5 days; Lolium multiflorum and Lolium perenne 0 to 10 deg C for 1 to 5 days; Arrhenatherum elatius 5 deg to + 10 deg C for 3 to 5 days.
