Abstract/Contents:Discusses how "the 20th century continues to be one of rapid expansion for golf and its playing fields...Fortunately, the strong bond between architect and superintendent that has endured over the decades has been strengthened in the process." Explains the potential importance of cooperation between golf course architects and golf course superintendents for the continued success and growth of the game of golf. States that "in an era when [golf course superintendents and architects] are beset by environmental concerns, it is gratifying to know GCSAA [Golf Course Superintendents Association of America] has taken a strong stand in support of the environment and is continuing to fund research designed to enforce that stand." Concludes that "with the apparently limitless expansion of the game and its playing fields, golf is becoming part of a way of life for many. This societal trend will continue as long as architects and superintendents together continue to create, maintain and enhance the cornerstone of the game."
