Abstract/Contents: | A 5-10-5 fertilizer of soluble nature was used at rates that gave 1/4, 1/2, 1 and 2 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. feet. Placing the fertilizer on the soil had no significant suppression of seedling development at the 1/4 and 1/2 rates. Applications of 1 and 2 pounds did suppress seedlings if the fertilizer was placed on the surface, but no such suppression was noticed if the fertilizer was mixed throughout the soil. In addition, fertilizers thus mixed yielded a far greater amount of grass clippings than fertilizers applied to the soil surface only. |
