Suggests that "educating golfers, the public and the media is the only effective method of improving this tarnished image." States that "superintendents can change the growing negative perception of golf courses by recognizing the importance of projecting a responsible and professional image in everything they do." Discusses the importance of public relations and recommends developing a relationship with the local media. Explains that "public appearances are great public relations tools" and suggests "inviting students, special-interest groups and the local media to [the] course" to demonstrate the good things being done "such as appreciation of wildlife, sophisticated water-conserving irrigation systems, and recycling programs." |
