It is based on the company's historical records that are held in the Museum of English Rural Life at the University of Reading. In 1832, Ransomes obtained a license to manufacture the first mower, which was invented by Edwin Beard Budding of Stroud. From 70 to 80 mowers were produced annually for the next 20 years." p. 476
