Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the competition between young and old plants on permanent grassland populations. To facilitate various levels of root competition, Lolium perenne was breeded in tubular shields. "Shield tubes were applicated both with solid walls of synthetic material and water and nutrient permeable tissue tubes which could not be penetrated in horizontal direction. Shields with solid walls strongly improved the development measured by dry matter yields of the young plants." Also lists research results on the different growth patterns of each plant. |
