Abstract/Contents:[Entire text] "Since implementing our environmental plan with the Audubon Certification Program, there have been two different mangers at my club. These two managers were at opposite ends of the spectrum. The first manager was adamantly opposed and very concerned with how the environmental plan would impact the golf course; the second was a strong supporter of the plan. Selling this plan to the supporter was easy, but trying to sell it to the skeptic was, at times, difficult. The strategy I took to sell the environmental plan to this manager was fairly simple. I made sure I was able to understand and represent the program well, discuss the costs in implementing the program, and address the direct and indirect benefits to the club. I spent a lot of time educating the skeptics about what we proposed to do, what the costs would be, and how the club could benefit from the program. Demonstrations such as planting wildflowers in a few remote areas or positioning a few bird boxes were done first. I kept the manager constantly informed about what areas of the golf course we were working on. I took the manager on tours of the course, showed him what we had done and explained to him how far along we were with meeting the guidelines of the Audubon program. It took just a few short months to convince the skeptical manager of the benefits of the program. He became more confident about what we were doing. He also saw that we were able to justify the nominal cost of becoming a Certified Audubon Santuary."
