| Abstract/Contents: | "The study was conducted on a commercial Kentucky bluegrass seed production field near Post Falls, ID. Soil was a Garrison gravely loam with a pH of 5.5, 5.09% O.M., and was fertilized with 750 lb/A of 20-12-8-5 on 1 Oct 95 and 225 lb/A of 20-12-8-5 ib 1 Apr 96. The plot received 5 to 7 in. of supplemental, sprinkler irrigation in Fall 1995 and Spring 1996, in addition to 23 in. of annual precipitation. Individual treatment plots were 10 ft x 20 ft with four replications in a randomized complete-block design. Tilt 3.6E was applied with Sylgard 309 at pre-anthesis on 3 Jun 96 and mid-anthesis on 10 Jun 96. Treatments were applied with a CO²-pressurized boom sprayer with XR11002VS fan-flat TeeJet nozzles at 40 psi using a 28 gal/A carrier rate. Plots were rated for disease severity on 10 Jul 96 by visually observing the amount of sclerotia in the panicles. On 10 Jul 96, between 91 and 433 panicles were hand harvested per plot and number of sclerotia and clean seed weight per 100 panicles were determined. Disease, as measured by disease index and sclerotia per 100 panicles, was heavy in the non-treated control plots. All treatments had significantly lower disease index and less sclerotia per 100 panicles than the non-treated control. Since essentially zero ergot is required for seed export, a reduction in ergot to a low level is desirable. No treatment reduced bluegrass seed yield compared to the non-treated control." |
