Abstract/Contents: | Describes the perennial peanut, or Arachis glabrata, which is related to the eating peanut, Arachis hypogea. The perennial peanut has emerald green foliage and bright yellow flowers, does not require irrigation, requires only a little fertilizer and pesticide, is comparable to Tifway 419 in its cold tolerance, and works well in southern climates. It is still being researched to determine its suitability on the golf course, but when compared to the maintenance costs of St. Augustinegrass, it is more than 3 times cheaper to maintain. |
