Abstract/Contents:Test objectives were to evaluate both genetic variation for componets of seed yield and field compatibility of males and females for the location. Results of the two-year study indicated significant (Pā‰¤0.01) variation among the female genotypes for bur yield, percent seeding emergence, false smut infestation rate, and percent seed set. Significantly higher yields in the second season were attributed to field plot maturity. The 1992 parent and progeny yield data will confirm superior performing genotypes and should provide better estimates of additive genetic variance and heritability.
