Abstract/Contents:Turf selections of Cynodon dactylon, Agrostis spp. and Lolium perenne were affected by Belonolaimus lolii n.sp. which multiplied rapidly on ryegrass roots. B. lolii differs from other species of the genus, except B. lineatus, by having 4 incisures on the lateral field instead of one. It differs from B. lineatus in body length and width, spear length, the head being offset by a constriction, spicule length and presence of sclerotized pieces in the vagina. B. lolii in turf was controlled with a number of nematicides. Both E.C. and granular formulations of phenamiphos at doses equivalent to 4 kg a.i./ha significantly reduced numbers in 2 to 3 weeks but a second treatment was considered necessary.
