Abstract/Contents: | The rate of water loss from cut leaves of cocksfoot when untreated, steam treated for 1 min or lacerated were compared with wet blotting paper at various vapour pressure differences (vpd) and found to be 150, 600, 400 and 10 500 mg/dm2 h, resp., at vpd of 16 mm Hg and air speed of 40 cm/s. On leaves of cocksfoot and perennial ryegrass heat treated or exposed to petroleum ether the wax platelets found on the surface of untreated leaves disappeared. The effect of chemical sprays on the drying rate of leaves of perennial ryegrass is discussed. |
