Geographic Terms:German Democratic Republic
Abstract/Contents:Monolithic field lysimeters in five locations were treated with labelled urea from 1968 to 1970 and with unlabelled urea in 1971 and 1972. The annual quantity of percolating water was dependent mainly on precipitation and secondarily on soil type. The average N content of the percolate was in the range 8.8 to 16.7 kg N/ha annually except on a loess-Schwarzerde in a dry location (0.9 kg N). No fertilizer N was leached at this site, but at the other sites, 11.5 to 15% of the leached N originated from fertilizer (1.5 to 2.1% of the applied N). Of the N taken up by the plants (cereals and Lolium perenne), 54 to 66% was from fertilizer N when 200 kg N/ha was applied, and 28 to 43% when 80 kg N/ha was applied; 37% of applied N was utilised in the year of application.
