| Abstract/Contents: | Benfluralin, bensulide, chlorthal-dimethyl and siduron were evaluated for their effect on the incidence of leaf spot (caused by Drechslera sorokiniana) on a single shoot of smooth meadowgrass. Bensulide at all concns. tested and chlorthal-dimethyl at 10-9 and 10-6M stimulated leaf spot on the 2 youngest leaves of the shoot. Benfluralin and siduron had no effect on the 2 youngest leaves. Benfluralin and chlorthal-dimethyl at 10-12 and 10-9M and siduron at 10-9 and 10-6M inhibited leaf spot on leaf 4. Only bensulide at 10-12M stimulated leaf spot on the 2 oldest leaves and siduron at 10-12M on the oldest leaf. The predominant stimulation and inhibition of leaf spot by the herbicides on the 2 youngest and the 2 oldest leaves of the shoot, respectively, is discussed in relation to the usual increase in disease on progressively older leaves. |
