Abstract/Contents:Lolium multiflorum and pea in polluted areas contained more sulphur, fluoride and chloride, and in some cases more nitrogen. Glutamate dehydrogenase activity was significantly higher, peroxidase and acid phosphatase activities less so. The pH of the aqueous homogenates of the plants was lower. A significant correlation was found between the nitrogen and sulphur contents on the one hand and the enzyme activities on the other. The reliability of the parameters as parts of a biomonitoring system are discussed.
