Abstract/Contents: | "Various factors need to be considered when selecting grasses for use on sportsfields. These are quite varied and the choice is necessarily a compromise that aims to satisfy a variety of requirements. Most of our sportsfields are dual use winter and summer fields and this situation is far from ideal. Given that the winter wear is the most severe, the species used must be well adapted to this. While various species are available, by far the most versatile and widely adapted are the improved ryegrasses. While the other species have their uses, they are only likely to be superior to ryegrass in situations that are precisely suited to their requirements." |
