| Abstract/Contents: | "A replicated field experiment was designed to test the preventive activity of a variety of fungicides for control of anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum graminicola. Despite efforts to induce this disease on an annual bluegrass greeen, however, the only significant disease detected was Curvularia blight, caused by Curvularia spp. As a result, the trial was redesigned to evaluate efficacy against Curvularia blight. Once thought to be of minor importance, the frequency of Curvularia blight has increased in the past few years in Southern California, on both annual bluegrass and bentgrass greens that have been previously stressed. The standard treatment for this disease are curative applications of vinclozolin (Vorlan, Curalan). Data from a replicated field trial conducted at Los Coyotes Country Club, Buena Park, CA suggests that preventive, bi-weekly applications of Lynx (1.5 oz/1000), Banner Maxx (1.0 oz/1000), or Cleary's 3336 (8.0 oz/1000) will provide good control of this disease as well. However, more field research is required to determine whether these fungicides will provide comparable curative control of Curvularia blight on turf." |
