| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a group of letters referring to walking golf courses, as opposed to using golf carts. Among many opinions displayed, most were in favor of the USGA article in the May edition of Golf Journal ("Through the Green"), stating that walking is how golf was meant to be played. Many felt that using carts when unnecessary "is detrimental to the game." Another opinion cited reasons such as high humidity and sudden thunderstorms as reasons for cart-only policies. A golf course owner/operator argued that he had to institute mandatory cart fees to keep his revenue equal with those of his competitors. Also, there were complaints of high walking fees at Pinehurst Resort and Contry Club. The director of golf at Pinehurst responded to this letter, explaining financial causes for the fee, and giving alternatives to the mandatory fee. |
