Abstract/Contents:Nick Christians, a horticulture professor at Iowa State University, "has come up with a new, all natural weedkiller that is made from corn gluten." The new use for corn gluten was discovered by accident during a cornmeal/fungus experiment. "According to Christians, the corn by-product reduces crabgrass growth by 60 percent the first year and up to 80 percent the second year." The product must carry a warning label until it clears the EPA. The product is expected to benefit Iowa farmers as well as gardeners and homeowners.
