Abstract/Contents:Describes micro hollow tining, a form of aerification in which narrow, 6 mm diameter cores are removed from the soil. Micro tining is less disruptive than traditional hollow tine aerification, and can help decrease soil compaction, encourage rooting, facilitate topdressing incorporation, improve water uptake, reduce dry patch, prepare damaged ground for overseeding, decrease thatch, and facilitate establishment of sod. However, it is stressed that while the lack of surface disruption makes micro tining ideal for some situations, it does not replace more extensive forms of aerification for year-round use.
