Abstract/Contents:Describes the difference between tree vitality, which is the ability of a tree to adapt and thrive in its natural environment, and tree vigor, which is the genetic capacity to resist strain. Presents methods used to assess tree vitality which include analyzing the amount of carbon used in stemwood production, determining electrical resistance of the cambial zone tissue, and determining the amount of starch present in the roots.
