| Abstract/Contents: | "Six different phenolic acids including p-coumuaric acid, ferulic acid, gentisic acid, homoveratic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, and vanillic acid detected in water extracts of Buchloe dactyloides clippings were examined for their clipping tissue concentrations and effects on seedling growth of Poa annua L. The tissue phenolic acid concentrations were found to be significantly different among the three Buchloe dactyloides varieties. The variety 'Prairie' had a higher total tissue phenolic acid concentration than the concentrations detected in 'UCHL-1' and 'NE609". Seed germination was not affected by the six phenolic acids, but root growth of the seedlings was severely inhibited." |
