Abstract/Contents:Presents the results of a study in which numerous types of golf shoes, including shoes with standard spikes and alternative spikes, were evaluated on several different golf courses. Examines the wear damage to putting greens caused by various types of spikes on different golf courses. Major conclusions of the study were as follows: 8mm steel spiked shoes caused the greatest damage; damage ratings varied among different golf courses; types of alternative spikes varied in the amount of damage they caused; smooth sole designs caused more damage than perforated designs; and damage levels varied among different perforated designs and among different types of "teaching" golf shoes.
