Abstract/Contents: | Reviews steps that increase a tree's chances of survival after planting, particularly the use of tree guards. Trees planted with guards tend to be healthier and grow taller than those without. Emphasizes that once guards are in place, they need to be monitored. Survival guidelines listed include: choose the right tree for the site, plant between November and April, plant healthy seedlings only to the depth of the root collar, ensure that guards and stakes are applied correctly, and follow an aftercare program that includes weeding and watering. |
