Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the "Nitrate Bill," which is a bill about concern with nitrate-nitrogen contamination on groundwater in Florida. Nitrate-nitrogen can cause an impairment of oxygen transport in the blood system. This is a problem with infants. It can be controlled by setting a drinking water standard of 10 mg Lā»Ā¹ (ppm) for nitrate-nitrogen in the water. The Department of Environmental Protection has set up penalties for not following this standard. Best Management Practices or BMPs for golf course nitrogen use are discussed. Includes a list of BMPs that are recommended for minimizing nitrate-nitrogen leaching in the turf. |
