Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the development of a new course, Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Spring Hill, Kansas. This article will follow Sycamore Ridge from the beginning of development to opening day. An important aspect in starting a project like this is finding financing. In this case the city of Spring Hill issued revenue bonds to pay for course development. After looking at the land the management team finally got the course layout they wanted after looking at six possibilities. Colbert, the leader of the team, likes to make his pay per day courses playable to all levels of golfers, therefore he tries to make wide fairways and not put hazards to the short right of holes. Once all permits are obtained ground breaking can begin. This course has a unique feature in that it has a lake that supplies Spring Hill with its drinking water, so careful contouring and drainage will be used to divert runoff to below the dam. The construction consists of three tracts. Tract 1 includes holes 2-6 corresponding to the links style of the course. Tract 2 (holes 1,7-10, 17-18) includes the moorland area as well as the driving range and clubhouse. Tract 3 (holes 11-16) are woodland holes and are the courses signature holes. Also includes information on the and order work is done in. |
