| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses plant growth regulators (PGR's) their use and affect on turfdisease management. Early studies showed that PGR's made disease symptoms more severe but now they are seen to help hinder disease. PGR's affect plants by either increasing rates of growth or inhibiting growth rates. PGR's are divided into two types, Type I and Type II. Type I suppresses growth and is further divided into two types: inhibitors, which inhibit foliage and seedhead development of cool-season grasses, and also suppressors. These products are absorbed through the roots therefore more time passes before inhibition compared to the foliar absorbed products. Type II PGR's inhibit the growth of plants but do not interfere with the developmental process, as do Type I PGR's. Includes summaries of research being done on both Type I and Type II PGR's and their effect on turf disease. |
