Abstract/Contents:Discusses the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) and how the Environmental Protection Agency is working to make the law work. The law will stipulate the use of pesticides, insecticides and fungicides. Turf-and-ornamental products will be hit by the intial wave of regulation. Organophosphate (OP) and carbamate insecticides will be the first to be subjected to new regualtion. The green industry has assembled the Outdoor Residential Exposure Task Force (ORETF) to provide the EPA with exposure data on pesticides that are used on lawn and landscape areas. The author suggests that while there is a rick involved in using pesticides, scientific investigation should be used to evaluate that risk. Some points that the EPA should accomplish in FQPA implentation are: sound science, transparency, reasonable transition and consultation.
