| Abstract/Contents: | Summarizes the results of a study comparing the green speed and quality of 12 varieties of bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.). Of those varieties that proved generally suitable for growth at the test site, all exhibited similar green speeds; the few statistically significant differences found were too small to be of practical value. A brown plot that had been treated Roundup herbicide was also tested and had the fastest green speed, demonstrating that practices designed to increase color and quality may not increase green speed. Includes a general discussion of green speed, its measurement and the cultural practices used to increase it without decreasing turfgrass quality. |
