| Abstract/Contents: | This study was conducted in a Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) plot. PVC pipes were sunk into the turf in rows; each cylinder was then treated with isazophos (Triumph 4E), isofenphos (Oftanol 2F), or nothing. The date of treatment varied for each row of cylinders. Grubs were then implanted into the cylinders. In the case of some cylinders, grubs were implanted 24 hours before treatment. 15 days later, the cylinders were harvested, and live grubs were counted. "There was a significant date x treatment interaction for SMC [southern masked chafers] and for total grubs, but not for JB [Japanese beetle] grubs." The authors presented reasons why the data for Japanese beetle grubs may have been unreliable. The results indicate that Oftanol provided significant residual control of SMC grubs for several weeks, and nearly complete control of the SMC population when applied as a remedial treatment. "In contrast, Triumph did not provide residual control of grubs for longer than about 2 weeks, although it gave complete control of SMC grubs when used as a remedial treatment." |
