| Abstract/Contents: | The effectiveness of the propylenediamine salt of 2,4-D (1.1 kg ai/ha) alone and in various combinations with MCPP and 2,4-DP; 2,4-DP; MCPP; Nortron; and DPX 4189 were evaluated for control of dandelions (Taraxacum officinale Weber), white clover (Trifolium repens L.) and henbit (Lamium amplexicaule L.). 2,4-D alone and in various combinations with MCPP and 2,4-DP provided excellent control of all three weeds. An April 10 application of 2,4-D and 2,4-D combinations eliminated dandelions in about two months; whereas, a June 8 application had eliminated the weeds in one month. MCPP and 2,4-DP effectively controlled white clover and henbit, but not dandelions. DPX 4189 appeared to control dandelions, however, data collected 3 months after application revealed that dandelion populations in DPX 4189 treated plots were comparable to those in the untreated control plots. DPX 4189 effectively controlled white clover and henbit, but was extremely phytotoxic to 'Manhattan' perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Nortron was ineffective against dandelions, weak against henbit, but effectively controlled white clover. Nortron was extremely phytotoxic to Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), but not to perennial ryegrass. |
