Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the pros and cons of new cultivars of ryegrass. Some of the strengths include: good blend with Poa pratensis, quick germination and establishment rate, high trafficability and a strong recuperative potential, extended growing season, survival at lower mowing heights, good short term drought color, and a strong root-soil bond. Some disadvantages are: disease susceptibility, non-uniform upright growth, slow lateral growth, and lack of seedling winter-hardiness. Includes two tables, one comparing divot healing ability of three cultivars each of Poa pratensis and Lolium perenne, the other comparing several characteristics of the two grasses. |
