Abstract/Contents:Evaluates five makes of fertilizer spreaders for reliable consistency of application rate and evenness of spread. The five spreaders tested were "the Central drop spreader produced by Central Quality industries of Polo, Illinois; the Gandy Turf Tender model 30H12 produced by the Gandy Company of Owatonna, Minnesota; the Ortho model 3000 spreader produced by the Ortho Division of the Chevron Chemical Company, San Francisco, CA; the Precission spreader produced by Precission Products Inc. Springfield, Illinois; and the Scotts model PF1 drop spreader produced by O. M. Scotts, Marysville, Ohio ... All spreaders were initially calibrated to deliver the same amount of fertilizer materials per inch of spreader." The Gandy and the Scotts models had the most consistent application rate and the most even spread. The least consistent was the Precission spreader.
