| Abstract/Contents: | The morphological variations of Festuca pratensis, Alopecurus pratensis and Poa trivialis growing in different natural habitats in several areas of Poland are described with the help of diagrams and tabulated data. Variability was greatest in leaf blades and ligules and smallest in inflorescence characteristics (length of inflorescence and generative shoots). The ht. of reproductive shoots was positively correlated with increasing soil moisture and inflorescence length. In Poa trivialis the lengths of the inflorescence and middle tier of leaves were positively correlated. It is suggested that these variations in the ecotypes of these grasses could prove useful in breeding new cv. of grasses. |
