Discusses the various processes such as aerated static pile, in-vessel system, both aerated static pile and in-vessel system and turned windrow. Suggests that the increase in numbers of facilities is due to mandated closings of landfills, opposition of biosolid land application on farms, and advancements in DEP regulations and streamlining of the application process. Portrays three of the fifteen biosolids composting facilities and what their efforts to communicate with the public over the issues of odor and toxins.
