| Abstract/Contents: | "Relative salinity tolerances of 33 creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds), one colonial bentgrass (A. capillarisL.), and one velvet bentgrass (A. canina L.) cultivars were determined via hydroponics in a controlled environment greenhouse. After gradual acclimation, grasses were exposed to moderate salinity stress (8 dS m(-1), 75:25 NaCl:CaCl(@2)) for nine weeks. Changes in relative (vs. control) clipping (1 cm height) dry weights and percent leaf firing were monitored throughout two[]experiments. Relative clipping dry weights were correlated with relative percent leaf firing across all rating dates (r=.61), and with root dry weight (r=.80) and maximum rooting depth (r=.70), for both experiments combined. Correlation coefficients were higher when experiments were analyzed separately. Significant experimental interaction was present, possibly due to the presence of synthetic (multi-clone) bentgrass cultivars." |
