| Abstract/Contents: | "This study was conducted to assess freezing tolerance of '609', '91-118', 'Tatanka', 'Texoka', 'Stampede', and 'UCR-95' buffalograsses. Stolons were sampled monthly from replicated field plots for laboratory freezing tests. Survival and regrowth data indicated that all cultivars had similar lethal low temperature (-6 to -6.5°C) in September when they were nonacclimated. All cultivars gradually increased winter hardiness during fall, however, the capacity of acclimation and maximum low temperature resistance were significantly different among the tested cultivars. The mean lethal low temperature (°C) between November 1998 to February 1999 for the respective grasses was Tatanka (-18.1)=91-118 (-18.0)≤Texoka (-17.1)<609 (-14.4) |
