| Abstract/Contents: | "Physiological responses of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) to drought or heat (HT), simultaneous drought and HT, and HT following drought were studied. The decline in canopy photosynthetic rate (Pn) was more severe under HT than under drought within 12 d of treatment (DOT). The reduction in leaf photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm) was more severe under drought than under HT at 20 DOT. Simultaneous drought and HT stress caused more dramatic reductions in Pn and Fv/Fm than HT or drought alone, starting at 3 and 9 DOT, respectively. Reduction in root dry weight was more severe under HT than under drought, particularly in the top 20 cm soil. During subsequent heat stress, plants previously exposed to drought maintained higher water status, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate and had significantly higher Pn and root dry weight than those previously grown under well-watered conditions." |
