Abstract/Contents:"Some sand rootzone mixes complying with accepted specifications have shown extremely small hydraulic conductivities. This has been attributed to the selective clogging of pore constrictions within the sand matrix by mobile particles in the organic amendment. A proposed screening method based on water dispersion and particle size distribution has been used to compare amendments known to have caused problens with other peats and composts that have proved to be satisfactory. At this stage the proportion of organic matter in water dispersible particles less than 125(Ī¼)m in the amendment material appears likely to be an important criteria in assessing suitability."
