| Abstract/Contents: | "The high sand content of putting greens creates a rootzone potentially prone to nitrogen (N) loss via leaching. Research objectives were to monitor N leaching, grass clipping N content, and water flow on the floating green at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The green is essentially a large sand-based lysimeter. Leachate was monitored daily utilizing an ISCO 6700FR automated sampler. Nitrate nitrogen (NO(@3)(^-)-N) ranged from 0.11 to 5.18 mg L(^-1); highest in December 1998. Ammonia (NH(@4)(^+)-N) levels were low, 0.01 to 1.19 mg L(^-1). Grass clipping N were 3.26 to 6.72% N. Total daily drainage from the green ranged from 0 to 10,221 L. The low leachate levels accompanied by frequent, light fertilizer applications (0.5 g N m(^-2) every 7 to 10 days) suggest efficient uptake by the turfgrass plant." |
