Abstract/Contents:"The experiment was located at the Ohio State University, OTF Turfgrass Research and Education Center, Columbus, OH. Treatments were applied 6 May to plots 5 ft by 10 ft, with 4 ft alleyways between replicates, arranged in a RCB replicated four times. Liquid applications were made using a 3-ft long, 3-nozzle boom, CO₂ pressurized sprayer with TeeJet 8004 nozzles at 15 psi calibrated to deliver 2.0 gal/1000 ft². Granular treatments were applied with a shaker jar. No immediate posttreatment irrigation was applied. The ranges were irrigated daily between 05:00 and 06:00 with approximately 0.25 inch of water starting the morning of 8 May. Field conditions at time of applications were as follows: turf - 90% creeping bentgrass (Penncross), 10% annual bluegrass, mowed at 3/8 inches; thatch, moist, loose, 0.25 to 0.5 inch soil; soil - moist, 71°F @ 1 inch, 68°F @ 3 inch; weather - partly cloudy; air temperature 76°F; 7 to 8 mph wind from SE. To determine control of BTA adults, on 14 May (8 DAT), a 1.0 yd² area of each plot (east end) was drenched with a soap solution (20 ml Joy Ultra in 2.0 gal water) and all insects were collected in 30 ml vials of KAAD preservative. To evaluate BTA larval populations, five 4.25-inch cup cutter cores were removed from the west half of each plot and evaluated for BTA larvae on 25 June (48 DAT). BTA adult counts at 7 DAT per yd² and larval counts at 48 DAT using combined five sample counts were analyzed by ANOVA and means were separated using LSD (p=0.1). At 8 DAT, the BTA adult population was deemed low (11.25 per yd² in checks) and adult counts was inconsistent in the MACH-2 treatments. All other treatments gave excellent knockdown of the BTA adults. At 48 DAT, the BTA larval population was deemed moderate (50.3 per ft²) in checks and all products produced satisfactory control. No phytotoxicity was noted from any of the treatments."
