Abstract/Contents: | "Gray leaf spot (GLS) (Pyricularia grisea) plagues high-maintenance perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) turf. The objectives were to investigate the effects 1.9 and 6.4 cm mowing heights in factorial combination with monthly applications of 0, 37, and 70 kg N ha⁻¹ on the incidence and severity of GLS. Split plots were covered with light canvas following inoculation. Field trials were conducted during the summers of 1998/1999. In 1998, no differences in GLS were observed between split plots that were covered or uncovered. Ryegrass subjected to 0 kg N had less GLS than those receiving 37 and 70 kg N ha⁻¹. Severity of GLS varied among mowing heights at 1, 2, 4 and 5 weeks after treatment (WAT). Turf mowed to 1.9 cm had less GLS 1 WAT and 2 WAT and more GLS 4 WAT and 5 WAT. Turf subjected to 0 kg N or mowed to 1.9 cm experienced faster recovery following the GLS epidemic. Data from 1999 trials will also be presented." |
