| Abstract/Contents: | "A shift from agricultural to residential land use has generated environmental concerns about urban sprawl, including urban waste disposal and soil quality issues. A replicated field study was established to assess the impact of the incorporation of biosolid compost to subsoil on turfgrass. Establishment, quality, yield, and disease severity were measured over time on Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and a blend of these species, each seeded on both compost-amended and nonamended subsoil. The rate of turfgrass establishment, based upon both visual assessment and MSR, was significantly higher in the amended plots. Clipping yield and turfgrass quality followed similar trends. Rust severity was significantly lower in the amended plots. Evaluation of the long-term impact of biosolid compost on the physical and chemical attributes of subsoil is in progress." |
