| Abstract/Contents: | Seven chemical insecticides, 5 commercial preparations of Bacillus thuringiensis and 2 preparations containing diatom dust were tested in the field in Quebec in 1975-77 against Thymelicus lineola (Ochs.) on timothy grass (Phleum pratense). In terms of protection of the plants from defoliation, satisfactory control was obtained with carbaryl, carbofuran, methomyl, permethrin, trichlorphon and the bacterial insecticides Dipel 45B, Dipel WP, Thuricide HPC and Novabac 3, the rates of application varying in different tests. Although larval mortality occurred less rapidly with the bacterial insecticides, their use is recommended because of the lower likelihood of undesirable side-effects than for chemical insecticides. |
