Abstract/Contents:"The selection of an erosion control material for site-specific conditions should be part of the design process. The large number of variables affecting the performance of the erosion control system makes it difficult to evaluate which erosion control material would provide the best overall performance for the given site. The evolution of 'prefabricated' geosynthetic erosion control materials has facilitated the definition of common material properties through standardized laboratory testing of these materials. These common properties can then be used to evaluate numerous products for application on a specific project. This paper presents the use of the Williams-Luna decision analysis technique for selection of erosion control geosynthetics for site-specific conditions. this technique provides a logical and methodical approach for comparing index or design test data to rank the candidate materials in each performance characteristic expected to affect the overall performance of the erosion control system. The relative importance of each performance characteristic as well as the cost can be input into the final selection process."
