Abstract/Contents:Genetically marked stocks of crested wheatgrass were isolated at distances of 0, 10, and 46 m. Average outcrossing values were 10.8%, and 14.1% for non-isolated plots, 4.0% for 10 m isolation and 5.5% for 46 m. Contamination was increased in years with winds favourable for outcrossing. Borders received more contamination than centres of plots but discarding borders in crested wheat grass appeared less effective than in other grasses. A high value of 8.8% contamination in one season using 46 m isolation suggested that a certified requirement of 50 m isolation might not be sufficient for crested wheatgrass. Until other studies are made it is recommended that 50 m remain the minimum isolation requirement for this grass.
